Kay has some wonderful classes scheduled for this 3 day event! Here are just some of what you will learn:
The Quilt Whisperer (part one)
You finished the quilt top and now you have absolutely no idea how to quilt it. This session is for you! Kay will demystify "quilt as desired" and help you figure out what to quilt on your creations! Kay presents tips for listening to your quilt and provides helpful lists to improve your ability to “hear” what your quilt wants.
The Quilt Whisperer (part two)
We have the lists and now we need to try out Kay’s ideas. There is really no way to try “listening” without quilt tops, so bring an unquilted top for Kay to listen to and let’s see how those lists work to help you “hear” as well! This session is fun and so helpful. Added enjoyment…watch Kay wiggle when the quilt finally talks!
We have played with listening to our quilt and have ideas about what to quilt, but now we need to know how to quilt. Basic shapes will be taught to break down those elaborate quilting designs. Straight lines, arcs, loops and more! Watch and learn as Kay demonstrates basic quilting shapes on the longarm and explains how to approach those more complex designs. Bring a sketch pad to get the most out of this session.
Dancing With the Crown Jewel
We learned the basics yesterday about quilting shapes. Let’s find out how to combine and use those shapes to quilt more complex designs. Pull out that sketch pad and let’s create some quilting designs. Kay will also cover her bag of tools and the quilting gadgets she finds most useful. Marking tools, pins, and much more will be covered.
Getting the Most Out of Your Crown Jewel
Let’s build on our basic quilting ideas and find out all of the possibilities for creating on the Crown Jewel. Lecture/Demo - Kay will take the customers through the wonders and capabilities of Quilt Motion with or without the unit installed. Kay will take you through the entire list of accessories and how they work, exploring all the varied applications for the Crown Jewel. Free-motion quilting will be included with ruler work, pattern boards, lasers, among the other features of the Crown Jewel.
Trunk Show in Black & White
Kay will show an assortment of her quilts to illustrate the ideas she has presented in the last two days. She will talk about how they are quilted and why they are quilted in that way. She will welcome you “listening” to her quilts and sharing what you hear. So much can be learned about thread color, stitching choices, batting, and much more by viewing her quilts.
Pass the Pimentos, Please!
Pass the Pimentos, Please!” Is an opportunity for fun! This brand new project from Kay is a perfect relaxing project for a retreat! It is excellent to work on when you are home with sick kids or just want a fun and freeing project. Some steps can be done away from the sewing machine. Stress-free Foundation Piecing
Like the look of paper piecing but don’t like the stress? Kay doesn’t either! She has created an easy, fun, and successful method of creating those sharp lines and angles without any paper and any stress! This how-to show you the beauty of a thread-cutter on a BabyLock machine along with tools to make your piecing easier. Watch and be inspired as Kay creates an easy block and then a more complex one without breaking a sweat!
Kay has played with the Sashiko machine to enhance her quilts. The beautiful hand-stitched look is perfect to accent delicate pieces, individual blocks, and much more. Watch how this fabulous machine creates uniform and precise stitches on silk, cotton, leather, and who knows what else!
